Standard coffee delivers caffeine — associated with alertness, cognition and the ability to ward off drowsiness and fatigue.⁵ The Neumina Mushroom Coffee does the same through its Arabica base, but adds six functional mushroom species — cordyceps, lion's mane, reishi, shiitake, turkey tail and chaga — each containing natural bioactive compounds including beta-glucans that are not present in standard coffee.¹ The result is a formula that combines the natural energy associations of Arabica with a functional mushroom complex that has growing scientific interest behind it.

Beta-glucans are naturally occurring fibrous compounds found in the cell walls of functional mushrooms and are considered the primary quality marker in mushroom supplements.¹ They are distinct from alpha-glucans, the starch compounds found in grain-based products. This distinction matters because analytical methods that measure beta-glucan content separately from alpha-glucan starch content reveal significant differences in active compound content across different mushroom supplement preparations.² When evaluating a functional mushroom product the beta-glucan content is the most scientifically meaningful quality indicator available.¹˒²

The six mushroom species in this formula — lion's mane, reishi, chaga, cordyceps, shiitake and turkey tail — are all considered new-generation functional foods and are the subject of growing scientific interest across multiple research institutions.¹ They are characterised by biologically active compounds including beta-glucans, triterpenes and phenolic compounds, and have been associated with antioxidant and immune system support activity in peer-reviewed research.¹ The research notes that detailed mechanisms and long-term clinical evidence still require further study — the evidence base is developing rather than fully established, which is important to understand when considering any functional mushroom product.

Human intervention studies on functional mushrooms in healthy adults typically use 28 days as the primary assessment period.³ Some effects — including speed of cognitive performance — have been observed acutely within 60 minutes of a single dose in pilot research, while mood-related associations developed over the full 28-day period.³ These are pilot findings in small samples and should be interpreted with caution. This formula is designed for consistent daily use as part of a broader wellness routine rather than as a fast-acting supplement.

This formula is suitable for most healthy adults. However the mushroom species in this blend — particularly reishi and cordyceps — have documented antiplatelet activity, meaning they may affect how the blood clots.⁴ People taking blood thinners or anticoagulant medications, those scheduled for surgery and those with existing bleeding risk factors should consult their healthcare professional before use.⁴ The formula also contains caffeine from Arabica coffee — individuals sensitive to caffeine, those who are pregnant or nursing, and those taking medications affected by caffeine should also seek professional guidance before use.
