Why does Akkermansia help support the body's natural GLP-1 response?

Research has identified clear pathways. During mucin-related metabolism, A. muciniphila produces short-chain fatty acids such as acetate and propionate, and these short-chain fatty acids have been shown to stimulate GLP-1 secretion from intestinal L cells through FFAR2 signaling.²’⁴’⁷ Researchers have also identified a secreted Akkermansia protein called P9 that directly stimulated GLP-1 secretion and improved glucose homeostasis in studied models.⁵ Together, these findings establish a strong mechanistic basis for Akkermansia's role in supporting the body's natural GLP-1 pathway.⁴’⁵’⁷
Does "GLP-1 support" mean this works like a GLP-1 medication?

No. Neumina is a dietary supplement designed to support the gut microbiome; it is not a GLP-1 receptor agonist drug and should not be expected to work the same way as prescription GLP-1 therapies. It should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment. Why is Akkermansia measured in AFU instead of CFU?

CFU (Colony Forming Units) measures the number of cells that grow into visible colonies under specific culture conditions. AFU (Active Fluorescent Units) is used in flow-cytometry-based viability testing, which measures fluorescently active cells with intact membranes. Because some viable or stressed cells may not grow well on a plate, AFU and CFU are not directly interchangeable. In mixed probiotic blends, flow cytometry has been shown to recover viable cells more consistently than traditional plate counting.⁶
